FIRST Mission

"To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders."

Dean Kamen, Founder

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international organization dedicated to spreading the education of science and technology among students. Founded in 1989 by renowned inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST has grown rapidly around the world and now hosts several robotics programs to give students firsthand experience in the application of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). By participating in the programs offered by FIRST, students learn skills they would not normally be taught in a traditional classroom environment, as well as valuable life lessons, such as leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking.

Based in Manchester, New Hampshire, FIRST is dependent upon partnerships with educational institutes, government agencies, and private businesses for funding, volunteers, outreach, and support. The success of FIRST is due in part to the hard work and dedication of over 50,000 adult mentors and supporters who step forward to guide FIRST teams as they compete.
